Telecom Phone Systems

There are two types of platforms for telephone systems currently available in the marketplace. We offer and support the best in class for both. Here is a general overview:

Premise/On-Site VoIP PBX:

  • Main Equipment: You own the processing equipment and it is installed at your site

  • Phones: A Hybrid VoIP system can deploy VoIP Phones, Softphones, Digital Phones, and Analog Phones wherever each makes sense

  • Analog Devices: Easily deployable via Analog Expansion Port

  • Voice Service: It can utilize any type of voice line available - SIP, PRI, T1, Analog Lines, POTS lines, etc.

  • General Feature Set: Extensive. Average 600 features

  • Advanced Feature Set: Extensive

  • Peripherals: Overhead Paging, Dorr phones, Conference Phones, etc. can easily be added via expansion ports

  • Scalability: Additional phones and voice lines can be added via expansions modules

  • Network: Can be portioned and completely separated from data network

  • Call Quality: Not dependent on LAN, Bandwidth, And QoS

  • Service and Support: High On-Site and Remote Service

  • Pre and Post-Sale Support: Very Good

  • Vendor Volatility: Low

  • Control: More

  • Software Updates: Not Automatic

  • Hardware: There is more (not much) hardware required

  • Continued Maintenance and Support Agreement Plans: Optional

  • Advanced Disaster Recovery: Optional and can be handled by the voice provider, telephone vendor, and ISPs.

  • Cabling: Can use CAT 3 cabling or CAT5/6 Ethernet Cabling

  • Initial Upfront Costs: Minimal if leasing or financing. Additional if purchasing

  • TCO (total cost of ownership): Since you own the hardware and software it has a much lower TCO over time

  • ROI Return on Investment): Quick if leasing or financing. Delayed if purchasing

Hosted/Virtual Off-Site Cloud Based:

  • Main Equipment: The processing equipment is off-site at a third-party data center and you utilize a VoIP connection to connect for feature functionality. You pay a per-seat license ($20-40 per seat) for as long as you keep the service. You never own the feature functionality.

  • Phones: Can only utilize secondary market, generic SIP/IP phones.

  • Analog Devices: Requires analog adapters that can be unreliable and difficult to deploy

  • Voice Service: It can only utilize SIP for voice service.

  • General Feature set: Limited average 100 features

  • Advanced Feature set: Limited

  • Peripherals: Overhead Paging, Dorr phones, Conference Phones, etc. requires analog adapters that can be unreliable and difficult to deploy

  • Scalability: Phones and voice lines can easily be added or decreased

  • Network: Relies on network connectivity where phones can be affected by network-related issues

  • Call Quality: Dependent on LAN, Bandwidth, and QoS

  • Service and Support: High Remote Service and Low On-Site Service

  • Pre and Post sale support: Limited

  • Vendor Volatility: High

  • Control: Less

  • Software Updates: Automatic

  • Hardware: There is less (not much) hardware on site

  • Continued Maintenance and Support Plans: Mandatory and built into cost per seat

  • Advanced Disaster Recovery: Included in per seat cost. You can take the phones home easier for disaster recovery.

  • Cabling: Must use Ethernet CAT5 or CAT6 cabling

  • Initial Upfront Costs: Minimal

  • TCO (total cost of ownership): When purchasing new, it has a lower initial cost since you are renting the feature set but a much higher TCO over time

  • ROI: Quick

Major differences.

Hosted is a good option if you only need telephone service for less than 3 years, need to have multiple remote users that wish to use an app on their cell phone to make and receive calls, need to relocate phones in an emergency, or take phones home rapidly, require advanced disaster recovery or may require rapid expansion or downsizing in the near future.

Otherwise, the generic Hosted phones are of lesser quality and less durable than the quality of the Hardware VoIP PBX phones. The Hardware VoIP PBX is more secure, less susceptible to hacking and toll fraud, has 75% more features, has fewer failure points than Hosted, has a 95% customer satisfaction rate vs. 50% with Hosted, gives you much more control, and will cost much, much less in the long run.

Financial Considerations: TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) examples:

20 extension Hosted Virtual solution: Zero up front with an MRC (Monthly Recurring Cost) of 400.00 per month. This solution has a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of $48,000.00 over 10 years.

20 Extension Premise VoIP PBX solution:  Zero up front and $307.27 per month financed/leased for 5 years plus an MRC (Monthly Recurring Cost) of approximately $62.67 per month for new SIP voice services. This solution has a TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of $25,956.60 over 10 years.

Bottom line

No matter which phone system you choose, make sure you thoroughly conduct research to figure out which features are necessary for your business and understand the pros and cons of each solution completely. Advanced Telecom Specialists will work with you to find which technology fits best and has the maximum value.

When all of the pros and cons and explained effectively and understood clearly by the client, the decision process of which technology to invest in should be black and white. The value of working with a technology partner that sells and supports both technologies cannot be overestimated to assist with making the best decision for your business

Powering Your Phone Equipment: Battery Backups and UPS Solutions

UPS / Battery Back up

Don't let electrical surges, outages, and brownouts disrupt your business operations and harm your important electronic devices. Implementing a battery backup or an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) is essential for protecting your equipment and data. Here's why:

  1. Prevent Costly Repairs: Sudden power loss can corrupt operating systems and lead to expensive repairs.

  2. Protect Your Equipment: Power fluctuations can damage or weaken the internal components of your phone equipment, requiring costly replacements.

  3. Maintain Communication: Power loss can disrupt your ability to effectively communicate with employees and customers.

What is a Battery Backup?

A battery backup provides temporary power to your equipment during surges, outages, and brownouts. It ensures a proper shutdown of devices until the electricity supply stabilizes.

What is a UPS?

A UPS, or uninterruptable power supply, delivers a reliable and filtered power source to your devices. It charges the battery while on standby and supplies power when needed, providing continuous and regulated power.

Why Choose UPS over Battery Backup?

UPS devices offer enhanced protection and filtering capabilities compared to battery backups. They are recommended for critical devices such as servers, ensuring uninterrupted operation and data processing.

Invest in Reliable Protection

Whether you choose a battery backup or a UPS, safeguard your devices from power issues. Battery backups are suitable for non-essential equipment, while UPS devices are ideal for mission-critical devices with higher replacement costs.

Conclusion

Protect your phone equipment from power disruptions with battery backups or UPS devices. These solutions prevent data loss and extend the lifespan of your devices. Contact our experts to find the best options for your business needs.
